改革开放以后，自杀作为新兴事物出现的股票让中国的老百姓趋之若鹜，自杀疯狂痴迷，一夜之间暴富似乎成为唾手可及的梦想，而许多人深陷泥潭，无法自拔。电机厂工人阿奈瞒着妻子自己下岗的消息，正犯难的时候担任会计的前女友陈纯鼓励阿奈帮她炒股赚钱。同院的王伯不小心将存款换成了股票认购证，善良忠厚的阿奈出手将认购证换了过来。不久后他的股票飞升，王伯的儿子王发认为阿奈骗了老爹，于是在阿奈老婆丁芝英面前造谣生事，导致这对夫妻的婚姻出现裂痕。股市行情风云变幻，钻营求利原指望发大财的王发，终于也傻了眼，而千千万万人的命运也将在股市的冲击中改变……
