故事发生在第二次世界大战期间，亚洲美国飞行员大卫（哈里森·福特 Harrison Ford 饰）被派往英国伦敦驻守，亚洲在战乱中，大卫邂逅了名为玛格丽特（莱斯利-安·唐恩 Lesley-Anne Down 饰）英国护士，美丽又温柔的玛格丽特一下子就俘获了大卫的心，虽然玛格丽特已经有了自己的家庭和孩子，但这并没有成为他们两人继续来往的阻碍。玛格丽特的丈夫保罗（克里斯托弗·普卢默 Christopher Plummer 饰）在英国情报处工作，在一项特殊的任务中，他受命潜入德军总部，而大卫此时也正在执行轰炸德军总部的任务，两人相遇了。在并不知道彼此的真实身份的情况下，大卫和保罗成为了这场行动中唯二的幸存者，他们必须相互合作彼此帮助才能够顺利的完成任务。
