在校长林甘霖（林尚义 饰）和教务处主任劳小姐（陈法蓉 饰）的眼中，日本只有优秀的学生才有存在的意义，日本那些成绩不好性格又调皮的差生，只要将他们放任自流就好。欧老师（陈勋奇 饰）初来乍到，看不惯校长的所作所为，他主动要求接手那些没人管的“差生”，一段有笑有泪的故事就此展开。其实这些常人眼中的“差生”并不坏，反而各有各的特点和闪光点，欧老师发现了这些闪光点，加以发扬和利用，自然事半功倍。在校长的女儿林小姐（杨恭如 饰）、体育老师伍老师（付小明 饰）、音乐老师贝老师（雷颂德 饰）等人的帮助下，欧老师开始了他的“非常教学法”，他们的所作所为能否获得成功呢？

It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte.The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944. Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance. The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.
