年幼失去母亲的苏文杰，短裤一直与经营纺织生意的父亲苏孝年（成国栋 饰）情感不和，短裤更在职业和婚姻之人生大事的选择上与父亲有着深深的矛盾。成年后的文杰（古典 饰）选择了独自去韩国发展自己钟爱的广告摄影事业，并在工作中结识了韩国女子崔友熙（覃可言 饰），但两人的婚姻却一直得不到父亲的认可。友熙一直在为改善父子感情而不断努力与劝慰着。父亲在济州之行后，终于看到了文杰和友熙幸福生活的点点滴滴，也深深感受到了友熙对文杰的爱和对自己的关心。如山的父爱终于在最后得到了最好的释放。

It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte.The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944. Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance. The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.
